From kingfishers to eagles and bee-eaters to herons, Botswana’s Okavango Delta is home to almost 500 bird species making it a birdwatcher’s paradise.

I took some 3,000 photos when I was in Botswana (I’ve since edited them down to a slightly more manageable 1,400!), including a ridiculous number of photos of birds from the Okavango River.
I didn’t have room to include them all in my last post, so rather than leave them on my hard drive never to see the light of day, I thought I’d round-up some of my favourites here.
These are some of my favourite bird photos from the Okavango River (I’ve tried my best to label them all, but I’m not an expert on birds, so if I’ve mislabelled any, let me know and I’ll update the post):
Fish eagle

Malachite kingfisher

Yellow-billed stork

Yellow-bellied bulbul

Little bee-eater

Great white egret

Kingfisher in the air

Water dikkop

Great photos!

Great captures. It’s neat to see how different the birds are in this part of the world.

Thanks. I agree, they’re so much more colourful and vibrant than the birds we have here in the UK. I really enjoyed getting to know the different species.
